Varsity North is a Minnesota high school sports site: every game on the state’s board, the state rankings, a page for every school, and a story for every football game — written before kickoff and again after the final. It is read by parents, players, and the towns the schools are in, and it is built to answer the question those people actually have on a Friday night: what happened, and what’s next.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League, MaxPreps, any school or district, or X. Everything here is built from publicly available information.
Scores, schedules, records and the state computer rankings come from MaxPreps’ public Minnesota pages, read every half hour. Each program’s full season is read once a day. A page shows the last value we fetched; a score that landed on MaxPreps a minute ago may take a few minutes to land here.
Live scores on a Friday night come from the schools’ own accounts on X. Every live number is attributed to the account it came from, and it is replaced by MaxPreps’ final the moment one exists.
Game stories are drafted by an automated writer from two things only: the box score (the score, the records, the ranks, the date) and what the two schools posted about the game on their own accounts. Every draft is checked by a program before it is published — every number in it has to appear in the box score or a school’s post, and every name has to be one of the schools’ or one a school itself posted. A draft that fails is thrown away, not fixed.
Players are named only when a school named them first, and only for what the school said they did. The stories do not describe a player’s ability, size, future or recruiting. The program is the subject.
A preview says who is playing, where, when, and how each side has done. It does not predict.
