WabassoNicollet opened the year 4-0, beating Renville County West 26-20 at home, Red Rock Central 30-27 at home, Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 34-20 on the road and Cedar Mountain 38-14 on the road.
The stretch since has gone the other way. Nicollet lost at New Ulm Cathedral 6-42, lost at home to Wabasso 6-56, and lost at Adrian/Ellsworth 6-60 — three straight before Tuesday's loss to GHECT (CO-OP).
Across those seven games, Nicollet's four wins each came by single digits or close margins — six, three, fourteen and twenty-four points — while the three losses widened each time, from 36 points against New Ulm Cathedral to 50 against Wabasso to 54 against Adrian/Ellsworth. The Renville County West game on September 3 was a Thursday, and the New Ulm Cathedral game on October 3 was played on a Saturday, with every other outing on the schedule falling on a Friday. Four of the seven games were played at home and three on the road, and Nicollet won all four of its home-or-road wins before dropping its final three games of that stretch, two of them on the road and one at home.
